A recent researcher from Cuenca. Biotechnology Graduate by the Universidad Politécnica of Valencia in 2014, who arrived to Granada the following year in order to do the Regenerative Biomedicine Master of the UGR. Due to my Master Final Project, I could be part of Dr. Rodríguez-Manzaneque team, in the research centre GENyO, where I currently do my doctoral thesis in Biomedicine since less than one year ago.

Lines of investigation

- Characterization of the mechanism of action of ADAMTSs metaloproteases by the identification and functional study of its biological substrates.
- Determination of tumor and stem cell plasticity by the modification of the extracellular microenvironment.
- Studies of functional genomics for the mechanisms of acquisition of endothelial phenotypes by tumor cells
- Contribution of the ADAMTS1 protease in the immune system during tumour progression.

The most notable result of your research

Discover the pro/anti-angiogenic and tumorigenic ADAMTS1 capacity depending on the cancer type. While inhibiting the protease in a mouse lung cancer model does not affect the development of the tumour or the blood vessel formation, in the case of the human Ewing’s Sarcoma it results in larger and more irrigated tumours. In this context, the immune system may play an important role.

How did you come to science and why are you still here?

I have always been interested in knowing how things work, mainly at a biological level. Understanding the human being is something that has always caught my attention. During my career, learning about it made me want to investigate further until today, moment at which I am working on something that I love and where I try to help those who I can through basic research.

Be able to continue working in something I like but with a greater support and involvment by the institutions.
