Data

I studied Biology at the University of Granada and I started in the field of Biomedicine with a Master in Regenerative Biomedicine, also by the University of Granada. With the End of Master Work, I started working in the “Proteases and Extracellular Matrix” Lab, headed by Dr. Juan Carlos Rodríguez-Manzaneque in GENyO, Granada. After finishing my Master, I stayed for three months in Coimbra (Portugal), studying how the extracellular matrix affect the mechanisms of new vessels formation and then I came back to Granada and I started as PhD Student. In my thesis I study how the tumour microenvironment is as important as the tumour itself, and how the mechanisms of new vessels formation are important in the fight against tumour development.

Lines of investigation

- Study of the tumour plasticity and the cancer stem cell properties by the modification of the extracellular microenvironment.
- Studies of Functional Genomics in the mechanisms of acquisition of endothelial phenotype by tumour cells.

The most notable result of your research

We have found that the ADAMTS1 extracellular protease plays a very important role in whether tumors develop or not. This role is not only important in the tumor itself, but also in its environment.

How did you come to science and why are you still here?

The curiosity to know how the organisms work and the desire of learning are the two reasons that made me arrive to Science. I am still here because I still have this desire.

A scientific desire

I desire that the scientifics be allowed to do Science, so we can reach a better society.
